Life As a Buddhist

I have been practicing buddhism for many years. I became interested in it while I researched the subject in college. It is a religion that includes different customs, practices and beliefs based on what was taught by Siddharta Gautama. He was believed by many followers to be an enlightened one whose purpose was to free other people from the cycle of suffering and then becoming born again. This religion is taught throughout the world, although it remains especially popular in Asia.

As a Buddhist, I follow the teachings from the cardinal doctrine of dependent origin. The foundation of this religion is the Three Jewels which are known as the Buddha, the Dharma or teachings and the Shagha or community. As a follower I commit to these three important principals that make up the religion. This is what has made me a Buddhist compared to other individuals who are non-Buddhists and have not chosen to follow the path. One thing I have been learned was that if I do good things I will be kindly rewarded.
